Review: Taming The Vampire by Mandy M. Roth, JC Andrijeski and others 5 of 5 stars

Taming The Vampire Taming The Vampire by Mandy M. Roth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a review just for the book Black Blood by JC Andrijeski as I have not read the rest of the books in this anthology yet.

Black Blood - JC Andrijeski

Quentin Black was kidnapped by vampires and and even though he is home he has not been the same, which his wife Miriam Fox (Miri) finds difficult. He has not really told her everything that went on yet but his having bad dreams and she feels powerless to help him unless he tells her more. All she knows is that he wants to rescue some friends he made while in captivity and kill all vampires, however life has more complications for them to sort out before they can get to doing either of those two things.

This was a great next chapter to the Quentin and Miri story and was a continuation of the story that was started in the book Black And Blue (Quentin Black Mystery #5) It was well written and I now want/need to know what happens next.

Review: Shadow Marked by Jasmine Walt and Rebecca Hamilton 5 of 5 stars

Shadow Marked Shadow Marked by Jasmine Walt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the Shadows of Salem series - I recommend reading the first before reading this book.

Detective Brooke Chandler now knows what she is but has no idea how to use her powers. Unfortunately she needs a teacher and that falls to Maddox although sh is unsure if she can trust him as he is a fae lord who expects her to pay for her training by helping him to find some artefacts. Even worse for her, word has got out out her and her power and everyone in the supernatural world seems to want a piece of her. This then gives her another problem - who can she trust?

I really enjoyed this book and found it more enjoyable that the first one. It covered a lot more areas and had a lot more action that I could relate to. Great book and definitely recommended.

Review: The Billionaire's Sub by M.S. Parker 4 of 5 stars

The Billionaire's Sub The Billionaire's Sub by M.S. Parker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hanna Breckenridge moves to LA after graduation to work for and live with her older sister. When helping her sister at an event, billionaire Cross Phillips sees Hanna and seems to be very interested in her and gives her his business card. However when she mentions Cross it to her sister, she is told to stay away from him as he is guaranteed to break her heart.

This story is very dramatic with lots of fast paced action that had me reading the book faster and faster as it went along. It was well written and I understood all the aspects of the story. It's kind of a mixture between 50 shades, an action film and a standard billionaire romance. Be aware it contains BDSM and sex.

She is most surprised to have a gorgeous man called Bastian wake her up who wants to take her to a rebel area as a prisoner - however with the Witches Council looking for her she is forced into taking a chance on Bastian as her protector and saviour.

Zoe finds it all very new and strange being in the real world as she has been hidden so had a very sheltered life. She has to learn some very hard lessons if she is going to survive this whole experience and hopefully rescue her father. She also discovers that the Regent is not doing a good job of protecting the sector from the Ravagers and that maybe she can help to save everyone.

A really great book that was very well written and very easy to see and feel everything that was happening.

Review: The Dark Paradise Trilogy Box Set by Heather C. Myers 5 of 5 stars

The Dark Paradise Trilogy Box Set The Dark Paradise Trilogy Box Set by Heather C. Myers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Awaken: Book 1 of The Dark Paradise Trilogy Book 1
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is centred around the struggle between good and evil and the impending war between the two. The main three characters are all friends at school who are mixed in this war that is coming in different ways. In this book, two of the three have a love interest which might not work out as you would like (read it and you'll understand).

I found it a little weird when it went back a few times to tell the same part of the story from the other person's viewpoint, but overall I really enjoyed it and became addicted and ended up finishing it when I should have been doing something else. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens in book two - I need to know how some things have worked out and what happens next

Catalyst: Book 2 of The Dark Paradise Trilogy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Andie Shepard has moved on from all the rumours and innuendo about her and the CEO (Jack) of her previous internship and is now doing an internship at another employer. However her new boss is illegally funding an act that could be detrimental to Black Wing so she needs to encounter Jack sooner than she would want.

Also Keirah has disappeared again and Noir has escaped - Andie suspects they are together but has no idea if she went willingly with him or not.

There seems to be a battle building and Andie seems to be in the middle of it all.

You need to read the first book in this series before reading this one. I thought this built onto the story very well and felt that I understood the characters a lot better by the end of this book. Definitely recommended.

Sacrifice: Book 3 of The Dark Paradise Trilogy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Keirah shows up at Andie's doorstep, asking Jack for help to find Noir. However at the same time Jack's new business partner (who is also his former romantic partner) is involving herself in the animal shelter, yet insists on Jack being there too, Reese then drops a bombshell on Andie, and the DA is doing everything he can to put the Black Wing in prison.

This book draws the whole story together and works towards a conclusion. There are so many things going on at the same time it all gets a little crazy hence my 4 rating for this book. As always it is well written and everything is clear bu as the action picks up I almost got lost in all the streams of story that were being pulled together.

The Krinar Captive The Krinar Captive by Anna Zaires
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Emily Ross has lost her job so decides to take the holiday of a lifetime that she had already booked to Costa Rica before finding another job - she already has an interview for her dream job lined up for when she returns. However she has an accident when trekking in the Costa Rican jungle where she falls from a rickety bridge which should mean certain death. Instead she wakes up in a strangely futuristic dwelling, held captive by the most beautiful man she has ever seen.

Zaron is on Earth to facilitate the Krinar invasion but he is also trying to forget a terrible tragedy that affected his life. He finds the broken body of a human girl (Emily) and fee compelled to save her no matter the cost.

I absolutely loved this book. I was captivated by the relationship between Emily and Zaron and lets be honest we all need a gorgeous guy who calls us angel. Definitely recommended. However we need more of these as they are so good.

Review: Dark Elements (Sector Eight) by L.J. Swallow 5 of 5 stars

Dark Elements (Sector Eight) Dark Elements (Sector Eight) by L.J. Swallow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Set in the future, this is the story of sector eight where the Regent who maintains the shield to keep the Ravagers out is inherited along the male line of a family of powerful witches. In this case there are two brothers - Mattias is the eldest and very peaceful and Alaric is the youngest and very cruel and sadistic. Bizarrely Alaric is the Regent as his personality was more pleasing to their father.

Cora is a human Scion and her fate is to be married to a witch, but she is not prepared to surrender to her fate as she knows that if she was to be married to the Regent she would die within a year or in childbirth. She wants to escape and make her own life.

She meets Ty (Mattias) before she knows who he is and starts to have an attraction to him. Unfortunately when Alaric realises this he chooses her as his wife. Now she is caught between the two and her drive and fight may be the only things that can save her.

I loved this book. It contained lots of intrigue and surprises as the story unfolds and the battle between the three main characters. It is very well written and I could feel myself being caught up in the story and the drama.

Why He SINS (Why He Sins Complete Box Set Parts 1-10) Why He SINS (Why He Sins Complete Box Set Parts 1-10) by Alexa Brookes
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received this book from the author for a voluntary review.

Megan is given to Michael for 2 weeks as payment for a debt by her father Eric. Michael tries his best to treat her right and not force himself on her even though he is desperate to have her. He has however got to get through her baggage from earlier in her life before he can get closer to her.

Megan's father is in trouble and Michael is trying to keep both her father and Megan safe. Then Anthony (Michael’s father) turns up at the house and is going to become a source of trouble because he is pure evil. He drugs her and tries to take advantage of her and generally does his best to blackmail her into doing various sexual things with him. Eventually everything gets sorted out and you need to read the book to find out how.

I really liked this story and they are written well. There is a lot of drama and action in the book, but as it gets further into the story I found it becoming a bit far fetched.

Dakota has been cared for and raised to be the perfect Blood Courtesan. When she reaches 18 she "graduates" and is sold to a vampire who will own her and use her as he chooses. Roman (her purchaser) is gorgeous and not at all what she has been brought up to expect - he refuses to touch her not feed from her. Dakota explains in no uncertain terms that she is not happy about this. Will they come to a truce where they both understand each other?

I loved this story - it was very different to the other Blood Courtesan stories and so was very original even though it was part of the same "franchise".It was very well written and I could relate to everything and everyone. I would definitely read something else by Marissa Farrar as this was very original.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received this book from the author for a voluntary review.

To recap from the earlier books (you need to read the first to understand the whole story although you could still enjoy just these - Gracie works for Jordan (a handsome billionaire) and they have both secretly had a crush on each other. Gracie's job is to handle sending out packages without knowing their contents and does that to one package and it leads to a death and a subsequent threat to her life in the name of revenge. Jordan is determined to keep her safe and takes her to a cabin in the woods owned by his family and calls on friends to help keep her safe.

This book is fast moving and contains more death, plots twists and turns, betrayal, blackmail and rape. It will keep you moving and if you are like me reading faster and faster as the pace and action of the story speeds up. Reasonably well written and clearly described. Contains some sex scenes so only suitable for adult readers.

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Elora has been stuck on an island with Niobe who is the Ice Witch. She takes an opportunity to escape when the witch dies to find Mason, but he is not the same man she left behind all those years ago as the Ice Witch took his soul when she took Elora so he works as a guard protecting the sector from the Ravagers is a cold and non-emotional way (after all with no soul what is there to feel apart from physical things like lust or pain?).

When Elora returns she is shocked at how he is and so she becomes determined to get his soul back for him. However to do that they have to get the help of a giant and go into the Underworld - something no one has returned from in the past.

I loved this story. It was very clearly written and I could feel empathy for both Elora and Mason at different times over their troubles and interactions. I was definitely routing for them in the end and just wanted him to get his soul back and for them both to have a chance at some happiness in their lives. I love the books in the Othala Witch collection and this was not a disappointment.

I received an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Natalya is a vampire who seems to be fixated on the fisherman she sees sat by the lake - she can see his purity as well as how handsome he is. She finds herself drawn to watching him from the shadows however one night a jealous suitor who she has constantly spurned decides to take it out on Caine with a fit of pique and attacks him.

Natalya takes him to her home and cares for him but dreads having to tell him that he and his live has changed. Will he accept what has happened or blame her as the cause of his misfortune? Plus they have battles with the man who attacked Caine, the rest of her Vampire clan and a local pack or Werewolves. Can they find a way to survive all of that and still remain as close as she would like?

A great book, told in very clear way. Everything was well described (although sometimes they would be a bit wordy) and I could feel the emotions and situations that were occurring.

Ady has always had a natural talent for songwriting however these are songs she wrote for herself, not for anyone else. Her Grandma sent her song to the Konstantine Talent Agency without her knowledge Ady is more than a little upset.

Mark Saint plays the same bass fiddle his grandfather did. When h was shown the song that Ady wrote that was sent n my her grandmother he drives across the state to meet the woman who wrote this special song. Can he help her with a family problem she has kept secret for years and can he persuade her to join them in Nashvillle?

Lovely little story showing the emotional side of being a shifter and some of the issues that they might have. I really liked this story.

Review: Matthew by Becca Fanning 5 of 5 stars

Matthew Matthew by Becca Fanning
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mel takes an internship under Kitty at the Konstantine Talent Agency and her job is to find talent and introduce that talent to the agency. Simple until she finds The 4 Saints. They are all gorgeous and when she sees Matt Saint she knows she is not going to be able to keep this professional.

Matt Saint is the guitar player in The 4 Saints. Whilst they may be up and coming country music stars they have to be careful as they are a clan of bear shifters that don't react well to lights and lots of noise.

Can they sort out the differences between the needs and expectations for a country music band in Nashville? Will Matt and Mel manage to keep it professional and if they don't will everything work out?

I loved this story. It had enough interest and drama, whilst having the love interest and romance too.

Candace is on the run from a gangster who thinks he owns her thanks to her Mum. She's managed to get out of her home and is in an alley in the rain sheltering on cardboard boxes when the gangster's goons grab hold of her and try to put the struggling woman in handcuffs.

Luke Saint is the drummer in The Four Saints and is going to buy new drumsticks before their practice. He hears a group of men beating a poor helpless woman who is screaming and loses it shifting into his bear and saving to woman.

Did she notice he was a bear when he was saving her? Will he and his family be able to keep her safe and how will then both cope with the growing attraction between them?

Lovely story with a mixture of emotions and plot lines. Enjoyable story that had me rooting for them both.

Review: John by Becca Fanning 4 of 5 stars

John John by Becca Fanning
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Meg Baker was a child prodigy who has had enough of her father controlling her life so has run away to Nashville to try and hide in plain sight.

John Saint plays the Mandolin in The 4 Saints. Meg comes to the Fiddler's Cave on her first night in Nashville and suddenly the harmonies in the group seem right. The family adopt her and take her under their wing. John and Meg seem to be drawn to each other and it feels so right. Will she be able to make the fresh start she wants in Nashville with John and his family or will the past catch her up?

This was a lovely romantic story of love and the complications of life. I liked the way the family were able to stay together and she was easily integrated into the family.

Kitty has a problem - no matter what she has achieved it is never good enough for her father. She may have signed The 4 Saints but it's still not good enough. Her Dad has now insisted if she can't get them to agree to perform on a big stage she will lose her job.

Bart Saint is the Uncle and Manager of The 4 Saints. He is incredibly good looking and knows it. He is determined not to let Kitty push them into a contract that puts them on a big stage for some very important reasons.

Who will win in this battle of wills and will either of them be able to resist each other?

Great story showing lots of emotion and determination to do what they consider to be the right thing.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Willow Davenport and her family sing and dance in their own Western themed show. They are excited to find the ranch next door is on the market and plan all sorts of things to do to it if only they can buy it.

Tyler Crowe is a bear shifter and would like to buy the ranch, as are some werewolves so there is a lot of competition for the ranch. Even worse Willow and Tyler are attracted to each other which is never a good thing when they are on opposing sides.

A lovely story showing that love can conquer all.

Cheryl is feeling frustrated that she is still in her best friend Beth's shadow. When Beth is preparing to marry a bear shifter bodyguard she is still feeling out of sorts but then she meets Derrick, the groom's bear shifter brother

Derrick is really not interested in this wedding - once again he is the useless little brother who ends up being the dogsbody sorting out the admin for the wedding Rushing into the practice he bursts into the changing room onto to see Cheryl naked - maybe this wedding is more interesting than he thought.

Lovely story with a fair amount of suspense and drama, plus the HEA we all want to experience in this kind of story.

She starts to think it's all over when another bear seems to intervene and take on the original bear. Later a Dietrich as a human "finds" her and takes her to where she's trying to get to. Maybe it's not so hopeless for Dietrich after all?

A lovely story and a great start to the series.

Red Magic: an Adult Dystopian Paranormal Romance: Sector 6 Red Magic: an Adult Dystopian Paranormal Romance: Sector 6 by JC Andrijeski
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Maia is born to be successor to the Regent's throne, and the highest-ranked witch in the holy lands of District 6. However Maia is a hopelessly, terrible witch. She can't do magic at all, no matter how hard she tries. She is soon to be 21 and will have to be replaced as a successor to the throne (probably by being expected to commit suicide).

In an amazing coincidence she is taken to see a trapped warlock that morning during her walk through the market before classes. In return for his freedom he makes a deal with her that morning that he can tell her what she is a why she is unable to do magic but when he does that nothing in her life can ever be the same again.

A great story with lots of clearly described people, places and emotions. I could fee that I was there and could really empathise with Maia and what she was going through. A well written book that I can definitely recommend.

The Other
Suzie and her boyfriend Jarod work for the same company and go to his family’s cabin for a long weekend where she meets the rest of his family. Jarod is a twin and she finds she has an irresistible attraction to his twin brother Jeff. When Jeff comes to stay with Jarod it becomes so much worse.

I liked the story and it was building up to something really good and then stopped suddenly which really confused me.

The Masseuse
Bradley and Chad open a message establishment which offers its customers more than just a normal message. Charlene is a customer that only wants a message. Bradley and Chad make a bet as to who can what sex with Charlene first, but Charlene has her own secret that could harm the brothers.

A pleasant story but more explicit than the previous one. Not sure if I liked this one or not.

Review: Nothing Stays In Vegas by Elena Aitken 3 of 5 stars

Nothing Stays In Vegas Nothing Stays In Vegas by Elena Aitken
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Lexi has been separated from her husband for 6 months as he didn't want kids and she didn't. She goes to Vegas with her best friend Nicole and meets a guy called Leo and has a very physical relationship with him. Work and misunderstandings and everything falls apart when she goes back home. Fast forward and Lexi has a son called Ben, her and her husband have stayed together but he seems to just work, and Leo knows nothing about Ben. Can they put everything back together and have the HEA they deserve.

I liked the book for it was hard going and far too cheesy. I think pretty much all the possible cliches were these which meant it felt a bit too drawn out towards the end and I just felt a bit tortured. You could maybe read it as a light read but I found it hard work for a more serious read.

Review: How (Not) to Kiss a Toad by Elizabeth A. Reeves 2 of 5 stars

How (Not) to Kiss a Toad How (Not) to Kiss a Toad by Elizabeth A. Reeves
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Cindy is a baker who uses a bit or magic to make her produce taste out of this world. She has just one problem - everyone she dates turns into a toad (literally). She then thinks she has found the perfect man only to be sadly mistaken (again). Now the Magic Council are on her case and she might lose her magic.

I found this book a bit too silly and found myself reading it faster towards the end for all the wrong reasons (I just wanted to finish it so I could read something better).
