Review: Chasing the Dead by D.B. Sieders 4 of 5 stars

Chasing the Dead Chasing the Dead by D.B. Sieders
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lazarus Darkmore is a Reaper and is looking for a meal of desperation, anguish, and despair by a mortal woman called Vivian Bedford gets in the way. He is intrigued and looking forward to finding out more about her as she appears to be useful with the power of a Soul Broker.

This is a short story prequel to the Soul Broker series. It very nicely sets the scene for what is to come and having read the first two books in the series it was nice to have a bit more of the background. It was well written and I think gave a great taster for anyone who is new to the series. If you enjoy this you will definitely enjoy the series.

Review: Inescapably Hellbound by Cassandra Lawson 5 of 5 stars

Inescapably Hellbound Inescapably Hellbound by Cassandra Lawson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fallen Angel Hades had been cursed by Aphrodite two millennia ago and that curse can only be lifted when he finds the woman he is destined to love called Persephone. This witch called Persephone isn't the first he has come across but she knows she is going to be the one to end the curse - however after abducting many of the other women he has come across with her name Hades won't even kiss her which she is finding most irritating. So she has a plan to seduce him - all she needs to do is stop her mother from killing him and avoid being used by an ex-god from Olympus in their plan to take over the demon realm - simple.

I loved this story. The developing relationship between Hades and Persephone was charming and all the troubles they went through definitely added to the story. The heartbreak of the way the ex-gods plan was executed and then the joy as it was thwarted was full of drama and excitement. I was definitely hoping against hope that it would all turn out for them. Well written and very enjoyable.

The Fifth Moon's Legacy The Fifth Moon's Legacy by Monica La Porta
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dragon had to pursue Jade across the universe but he has found her. Now they are physically in the same location they are still far apart - can Jade accept his love and can Dragon find patients to give her the time she needs? Somehow they have to find a solution - they have so much to lose now that they are going to become a family - can they find a way to escape all of their enemies and stay together?

OMG - this was a great book to pull together all of the strands in the story and complete the saga of Dragon and Jade. There was still plenty of drama, danger, twists and turns in this story - some of which I never saw coming so were a complete surprise to me. Everything was well written and I could definitely feel and empathise with their thought and emotions as the story was unfolding. I won't give away the ending but will say that I loved it and I'm sure we can all only hope to find happiness and someone to love us as much as these two did.

Needing Him Needing Him by Kennedy Fox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Evan Bishop broke the family mould and instead of working on the ranch he is a doctor working in the local hospital ER. He does however still work on the ranch on his days off so he has the body to show for all his hard physical labour. He's never got the time for dating so decides to have one wild night at a family wedding with one of the guests. Emily Bell is a city girl and is determined to escape from her family name and make her own in a new hospital. She is also determined to not get involved with anyone after being burnt one time too many but when she goes with her friend Kayla as her +1 to a wedding and then finds herself on her own at the bar, the presence of a hot guy in a tux persuades her to break her new rules for one hot night of fun before she buckles down to work. After all they both want nothing from each other after the one night of passion - however it appears that somewhere there is another plan that becomes blatantly clear when she starts her new job on Monday morning.

Oh wow I loved this story. Yes the initial problem on the Monday morning was almost obvious and a little cheesy but after that it was all original with lots of surprises, twists and turns as they got to know each other. I loved the way the story developed and the way it ended too. You will definitely have a smile on your face when you finish it. You do not need to have read the previous Bishop Brothers book to read this one.

Review: The Apollo Illusion by Shari Lopatin 4 of 5 stars

The Apollo Illusion The Apollo Illusion by Shari Lopatin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Flora is 19 and lives in the State of Apollo. She is being bullied daily and just dying with curiosity on what is behind the wall surrounding the State, after all everyone can read, send text messages, discuss motivations and philosophies, but questioning what is on The Other Side is not allowed. However she reveals a dark secret and finds herself in a complicated web of both truth and lies. She leaves a clue for her childhood best friend Andrew and hangs all her hopes on that bond coming through for her.

This was a story that was set in the future and is of the dystopian style genre mixed with some science fiction. The story plot was quite clever and was definitely easy to understand and I think relate it to the modern world with some parallels. Hidden in there was a story of 2 childhood friends who certainly love each other however are in denial so for the earlier parts of the story Andrew is a typical late teenage boy with all sorts of breast obsessions. The writing was clear and easy to understand and I could relate to the thoughts and emotions of the characters (most of the time). The way the story ended made me think it wasn't really the end, so don't be surprised if the author writes another book after this one.

Review: Heartbreaker by Maddie Wade by Pavan Kaur 4 of 5 stars

Heartbreaker Heartbreaker by Maddie Wade by
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jackson is known as the Heartbreaker but when he meets Ashley he is completely smitten and finds her like a drug that he cannot (indeed will not) give her up. Ashley is not prepared to settle down now that her life and business are coming together nicely. However when she meets Jackson she finds that she craves his touch and voice even though he is completely different to her. Can she walk away or can she live with those differences in order to be happy?

This is a charming love story that will definitely leave you feeling warm and gooey. Their differences seemed vast but attraction moved past that. I found the story a little fantastical in places but it did come back to the more basic parts of this kind of story. There were the obligatory set of issues with past loves or family which was a little monotonous, but it was definitely an integral part of the story. Well written and very clear and easy to understand.

Review: Perfect Imperfection by S.E. Gould 5 of 5 stars

Perfect Imperfection Perfect Imperfection by S.E. Gould
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

PI (Perfect Imperfection) is a secret society that has a new technology that enables the members to be transferred into a virtual world and once there they can alter their appearance, accelerate learning and utilise artificial intelligence and drones to achieve things in the real world. Billings Ball is a young man who could be considered ugly and very much a loner - his only interactions are with colleagues and his gaming friends online, so when he is in an accident he is "killed" and brought on-board to PI where he becomes a secret agent helping humanity. Blackbeard is an elite black-hat hacker who notices a pattern in some philanthropic acts and decides to use some false identities and new technology in order to uncover the identity of PI. He decides to blackmail PI with the threat of exposure and Billings gets involved in a face against time to find and stop Blackbeard using all of the tools at their command. Will Billings succeed to protect this new way of life of his or will Blackbeard win?

Wow - this is an amazing concept and idea that is very up to the limit in it's use of AI and drones, but also points out that they COULD be used for good and not the items of fear that many consider they are today. I loved this original story and enjoyed the way it developed and the events meshed together into this highly original story. It was well written and very enjoyable. I could relate to and understand everything and believe that even people who did not have as much of a technical background as myself could understand the concepts involved in this story.

Tiger's Eye: Bad Alpha Dads Tiger's Eye: Bad Alpha Dads by Kenna McClare
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

New York City hitman Daniel Page has a hit go wrong and suddenly his boss realises he is actually a Tiger Shifter. What comes next is a nightmare - he is subdued and ordered to turn the other hitmen into Tigers - something he refuses to do. Unfortunately they discover he has a hidden daughter called Meredith and are determined to use her against him to make him change the others. However she has a guardian - a lion shifter called Catherine who makes him burn with need. All of a sudden he faces a choice - gamble everything and gain a family or lose everything.

What a charming story. I so felt for Daniel and could feel his pain and confusion with everything that had happened for him in the past. His interaction with his daughter and her guardian were pleasant and easy to understand and relate to. It was a nice touch that he had never learnt about shifters due to the way he became one and I felt that could have been expanded a little more in the story. It was clear and easy to understand I just felt it could have had more detail and content.

The Dragon's War The Dragon's War by Lila Jean by
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Past nobody and current home to the fertility goddess, Tina Andrews has been through so much but life is still not easy for her. Yes she has fame, money, power and 5 super hot men to look after her needs, but others are determined to destroy her and take the goddesses powers for themselves. So she comes up with a plan - keep her men safe, find out and expose who is framing her for the murders they are committing, stop the shifter war that is just around the corner and a new one on her list - stop the powerful socialite from killing her or draining her power - simple yes?

Wow - so many things were happening at the same time the poor girl must have wondered what else could have gone wrong. However never to be beaten, she used intelligence and logic to tackle everything that needed attention and worked her way through the list. It was lovely to see how her men supported her through everything that was happening as well as the way they supported each other. I loved the way the story developed and moved between all the problems. It was so nice to read about such a strong woman that really was trying to do the right thing but was just being attacked by other people left, right and centre. I loved the way the story finished and really hope these two authors work together again on another epic story. It was well written and I could feel, empathise and understand everything. I definitely found myself reading faster as the story developed - I need to know what was happening next or who the mysterious person framing her.

The Alpha's Gift: Bad Alpha Dads The Alpha's Gift: Bad Alpha Dads by Monica La Porta

Dragon shifter Max Prize is a millionaire who is charming with women falling at his feet. So when a baby is left for him at the door of the building he lives in, his well ordered playboy lifestyle is shattered - especially when he meets the woman hastily arranged to be a nanny to the child. The question is - will this continue to be complete disaster for him, or is it the start of the best thing that has ever happened to him?

What a dramatic story from start to finish. I loved the way the story developed over time and the touches of depth in the story. Just when you thought it couldn't get more dramatic something else happened and it all got complicated again. I loved the HEA at the end of this book and the way it was wrapped up into something very special. Well written and very easy to understand and empathise with the characters.

The Cult of Unicorns The Cult of Unicorns by Chrys Cymri
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Penny White is a rural vicar in England who has only in recent months learned about the realm of Lloegyr in the parallel world of Daear where fantastical creatures from her imagination speak Welsh and live a Christian Life that she is a liaison to. However life is complicated - on the one side she has a connection to the dragon Raven who takes her out on exciting excursions, the on the other is the police Inspector Peter who is just as obsessed with Dr Who as she is. In the Lloegyr realm Unicorns are seen as the wise arbiters between the faces but when humans appear in Northampton with injuries like those you can imagine are caused by a long horn Penny has to get involved and investigate before it turns into something bigger.

Wow - this second instalment didn't disappoint as it contains as much excitement, drama and danger as the previous book did. I loved the little love triangle between Penny, Raven and Peter which almost felt like it was being settled at the end of this book but I feel it will completely change dynamic in the next story. I loved the descriptions of the various types of fantastical creatures, their environment and features which all combined to give me a clear picture in my mind of what and who where in the story. After the events of the previous book I just wanted to give her brother a hug and tell him that it would be alright. Can't wait to read the next book now.

The vampires from both Candle Bay and Crimson Cove join together to celebrate the centuries old Biting Man Festival which is held in Eternity, CA. However this year the festival is disrupted by a heady combination of enemies, bloodlust and a vampire slayer.

I found this story a little tedious at the start but it soon got going as it wove various story-line strands together in the buildup to the festival and the eventual climax which was definitely a bloody affair. The writing was ok and I could clearly understand the story. I found the build up a little slow in places which was a shame but in the end I was definitely able to empathise with the various characters involved.

Celeste is a young she-wolf who is just about recovered from an earlier abusive relationship. Both seem destined to remain unhappy and single until Celeste's best friend Julie calls in the help of Gerri Wilder the matchmaker with a perfect record. Can this fairy-tale succeed with two exes instead of the traditional villain?

Goodness - such a sweet story that quickly morphed into a story with drama, danger and intrigue as the exes came to play. It's always heartening when true love comes to fruition - the kind that cannot be denied and will prevail no matter what happens. I loved the way their relationship built slowly and how their wolves knew at lot sooner than their human side had caught up. Well written and very enjoyable to read.

Seeker: A story in ChaosNova universe Seeker: A story in ChaosNova universe by David Noe by

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A junior in a very successful bounty hunter group, Jewel Harper returns after a routine mission to find a proposed private contract which has already been prepared. However it has a unique twist - it is to rescue a brother she had no idea she had. The mission will take her to multiple homeworlds and she will discover that everyone knows much more about her own family and their history than she has ever done.

Very enjoyable story that can be read stand alone and without and prior knowledge of the ChaosNova universe. I liked the way the story developed and I enjoyed the way twists and turns were introduced at times when you thought you understood everything. The writing was good and I could understand everything well. I would have liked a bit more comment and investigation on how she felt about her discoveries about her parents and brother but felt it was still a great story. Definitely a great example of science fiction and the bonus small section at the end helped me to understand how the ChaosNova universe works and what constraints and limitations they write under.

Ancient vampire Quinn Alexander is rich and handsome and wishing he didn't have to be in Hong Kong on business. But suddenly the Thirst hits him and he suddenly craves human blood and is struggling to keep any sort of control over himself. However when he is lost n the rough and dirty backstreets he picks up a scent that takes over his senses and logical thought abandons him as he suddenly HAS to reach whomever it is that he can smell. Then he hears a scream and a cry for help - can he reach her in time?

OMG - this story definitely had some new twists to the basic formula of a vampire's thirst story. I loved those differences and how they changed the story and the way it was developing. I loved the characters is the story and the way they interacted (or not). Very dramatic and full of a few unexpected twists and turns this is definitely a must for any fan of the previous stories as well as anyone who is tempted to give them a try. However it gets so much worse when her father (a rogue warlock) will get his coven to kill anyone who stops her from joining them and taking part in their dark magic. However James also has a secret - he is an immortal and he really doesn't need to get tied up with a watch who could bind and imprison him. Can they work together to survive when covens and immortals are in a battle let alone when the alternative is either death or domination by black magic?

Wow - so many twists and turns in this story you will never be bored. I loved the characters as they were very real and believable. I really loved that Callie was a strong woman who was not shy to take or ask for whatever she wanted. James was a lovely guy and I could completely understand why he was so captivated by Callie and why the perceived risks of associating with her were not enough to stay away. Everything was clear and very easy to understand. I definitely enjoyed this story and can't wait to find out what happens next.

Corey gets a call from someone from way back in his past needing help but it appears a lot has happened in the past 12 years - both have moved on but Angela is in the middle of a bitter custody battle and very nasty divorce. She may have been married to Greg for 7 years but it is only now that she really understands exactly what he is like and it is not at all nice. Even worse she grabbed some photos of documents as a kind of "insurance" the last time she was in his house which might end up getting her killed. Can Corey help keep her alive as well as rescue her son from his evil father?

So much drama and danger in this story. Corey must have been knocked sideways seeing her again and finding out about her son but he took it all in his stride and handled it like an absolute gent. I loved Corey as a character and I think we could all do with him in our lives taking care of us. Dramatic story with lots of twists and turns which was well written and easy to understand and empathise with.

In a time of war between Werewolves and humans with Magic can two people who are destined mates find a place with each other and their own kind? Steven is a Werewolf Prince, and Cora is a Magic Princess. They meet when Steven is sent by his Magic hating sister Jen to kidnap her to try and make her father end the war. Can Steven cope with the resulting events and accept that his home is with Cora and that this is real?

This was an interesting story that definitely had a good base with the battle between the wolves, the magic users, and the love dilemma merged into it. It was well written and I could understand the majority of it well. I did get a little lost in the occasional part of the story but it became clearer as I carried on reading. I have to say there were times I became quite irritated with Steven and just wanted to give him and damn good shake! A good story and definitely worth the read.

The Temptation of Dragons The Temptation of Dragons by Chrys Cymri
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Penny White is a rural vicar in England who came across a dragon fatally injured in a RTC and was asked to give him the last rites - little did she know that it would signal a change in her life that would turn it upside down. She now has been introduced to a world she only dreamed of, a Gryphon called Morey for a companion and her younger brother returned from New Zealand to contend with. Add to that having to negotiate with a cannibalistic family, running from snail sharks a handsome dragon called Raven and a handsome police inspector who is also a sci-fi junkie and is it any wonder she has to turn to red wine and single malt whisky? Can she navigate this complex parallel world, it's customs and an errant younger brother and keep her sanity?

Wow - this was an amazing parallel world that was carefully crafted by the author in this story. Penny was eccentric but very easy to sympathise with in so many ways as she went from event to crisis to resolution in this roller-coaster ride. I found myself on this journey with her to a crazy new life that I'm sure many of us wishes we could have for real. I loved the way real life would impose itself into the new world she was now part of. Everything is setting the scene for a great love triangle between her, Raven and Peter. I know which one I want her to choose.

However when she inherits an old house left to her from an elderly aunt she finds that there are 4 winged and fanged hot guys who say she is the only one who can break a curse that is affecting them. Ace feels a connection to them and then starts to see things she can't explain. Everything has to go on hold as she faces a new threat to the city - one that leaves victims with missing bones and no blood. Thankfully the 4 roommates can help her solve the case and help protect each other.

Wow - I loved this new direction with a merge of the paranormal, reverse harem and a detective story. It was full of excitement, action, danger and drama which helped to keep me addicted to the story as it was unfolding. It was well written and everything was clear and easy to understand. I love the concept of this story and can't wait to see how this develops and what happens to them.

Final Stand Final Stand by Rose Garcia
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dominique might have killed Tavion but she still feels punished as she is forced to flee from Houston and leave all her friends behind. Problem is she can still hear Tavion in her head so she still has a connection to the Tainted - then their car is ambushed and it becomes clear that someone close is a traitor. So she goes back to Houston and seeks Trent and Infiniti who are first lifers to get some help. However it is complicated between her and Trent due to her pull towards Farrell. So when it all escalates towards her loved ones Dominique decides to make a final stand in order to survive.

Wow - this was a roller-coaster ride through many twists and turns as the story developed and Dominique got further into understanding what is going on around her. I liked the way the story developed with the inclusion on Trent and Infiniti to add a new dimension to it. It was well written and everything was clear and easy to understand. I could feel the emotions of the characters and empathise with their viewpoints during the story. I'm now wondering what is going to happen next.
